R&D investments

Viridia companies invest heavily in R&D every year: Ecospray, the group’s most established firm, has invested more than €10 million in Research and Development between 2018-2023.

In more recent years, with the acquisition of ETG and the founding of MachOne, the group has been diversifying its investments into the development of new and innovative technologies, always maintaining its focus on the sustainability of industry.

CapLab

The pinnacle of the group’s research facilities, CapLab is a collaboration between Ecospray and the University of Genoa (UniGe). The laboratory, opened in 2023, is the place where Ecospray and UniGe researchers will experiment on molten carbonate fuel cells (MCFC) for carbon capture applications, specifically for the shipping industry.

It was inaugurated in spring 2023 in the presence of the President of Liguria, the Mayor of Genoa, and industry specialists.

The results of the research at CapLab could allow Ecospray to commercialize systems that will significantly reduce the CO2 emissions of ships all the while producing carbon-neutral energy on board.

Viridia companies have often worked with universities and research institutions guarantee the highest levels of innovation. Ecospray has underwent research collaborations with several insitutions in Italy, such as the University of Genoa Politecnico di Milano, and the University of Perugia.

MachOne is looking into projects partnering with the Applied University of Southern Switzerland (SUPSI) in Lugano (CH).

ETG has been part of the international research program “Passepartout” involving the Cork Insitute of Technology (Ireland), the Technical University of Munich (Germany), and the University of Bari (Italy), for measuring air pollution in European cities.
